It is an air plant remarkable by its weeping silver leaves that dangle down from old trees. It is native to the southeastern USA in high humidity areas. It makes the quintessential southern city whether it is Savannah, Charleston, or any Louisiana towns. The leaves are flexible, curled, 2 to 6 cm long and they grow together like a chain. You can happily hang one wherever you find a little spot for it to hang from, since they require neither soil nor pot. It needs high humidity and pollution-free conditions to grow. It can be grown indoors with regular misting and humid conditions.
- Place the moss near a window that offers bright, indirect light. A relatively warm and humid location is ideal.
- Make sure your Spanish moss doesn’t form a dense ball, as fresh air needs to be able to reach all strands.
- Water regularly by giving it a quick soak when it’s gone completely dry. Use rainwater or filtered water. It needs to dry properly after every watering. So you can very gently shake off any excess liquid and leave the plant to dry for a bit before returning it to its container. It’s good to go once the leaves have gone back to their natural, silvery color.
