It is a small tree growing up to 6-10 m tall, with a spreading crown of an unusual and very striking yellow and green variegated foliage. In summer, the showy pink and white flowers appear at night and sometimes remain open all morning. They make way for small inedible fruits that when ripe turn black and split open to reveal bright red seeds that are attractive to birds and wildlife.
